Madhur means sweet.
Not the sweetness that announces itself,
but the sweetness that is present throughout
and only fully understood in retrospect —
the champagne that held the pink,
the silk that held the weave.

Pure raw silk retains what processed silk removes:
the natural sericin, the slight resistance,
the body that the fibre had
before it was asked to be smooth.
The roughness is not a flaw.
It is what pure means on silk.

The flowers were woven in,
not printed on.
They are in the structure of the cloth
the way the colour of a person
is in their character —
present in every thread,
not added afterward.

Raw silk is silk at its most honest. The processed silks — mulberry, organza, georgette, crepe — are degummed: the natural sericin protein that coats the silk filament is removed in processing, leaving the smooth, fluid surface that most people recognise as silk. Raw silk retains a significant portion of its sericin. The retained gum gives raw silk its characteristic body — a slight stiffness and resistance that processed silk does not have — and its slightly rough surface texture. The fabric does not slip or drape as freely as degummed silk. It holds its shape. The roughness is structural, and it belongs there: this is what pure silk feels like before it has been asked to become something else.
The woven floral confirms the fabric’s purity from a second direction. Printed florals are surface applications: the colour sits on top of the fabric, the pattern visible only on one face, the other face showing the unprinted ground. Woven florals are structural: the coloured threads are incorporated into the weave itself, the pattern visible on both faces of the fabric, the colour belonging to the cloth rather than to its surface. The pink, coral, and peach flowers on the champagne raw silk of Madhur are woven in. They are in the fabric’s construction, not applied to it afterward. Every thread of the flower was placed by the loom.
The flower palette is the collection’s softest: the specific pink that sits between rose and blush, the coral that sits between peach and orange, the peach that sits between cream and warm pink — all three within the warm neutral family, all three against the champagne ground that holds them without competing. The resulting composition reads as a field of flowers seen through light: the colours present but not vivid, the overall impression of champagne with warmth distributed through it rather than a coloured ground with flowers on it.
The tissue silk dupatta carries the same woven floral in a more sheer, luminous register: tissue silk is the lightest silk weave, its gold or silver lurex threads creating the characteristic shimmer alongside the silk warp. The floral pattern on tissue has a different quality from the same pattern on raw silk — the translucency of the tissue and the shimmer of the lurex making the flowers appear to float in the dupatta rather than rest on it. Three pieces: two of raw silk, one of tissue. The suit is the collection’s most complete expression of what pure silk does on its own.

The all-over woven floral on pure raw silk requires a jacquard or extra-weft weave construction: the coloured silk threads carrying the floral pattern are incorporated into the fabric structure as additional weft threads, the weave programmed (traditionally on a jacquard loom) to bring these threads to the fabric surface at the positions that form the flower shapes. The process is slower than printing by a significant margin — a jacquard loom produces woven fabric at a fraction of the speed of a printing press. The woven pattern is also more durable: the colour cannot fade, crack, or peel because it is not a surface application but a structural element of the cloth.
The tissue silk dupatta adds a second silk weave tradition to the set. Tissue (also known as tissue silk or tissue organza) incorporates fine metallic lurex threads — traditionally gold or silver — into the silk warp alongside the silk threads. The resulting fabric has the slight shimmer visible in the reference image as a faint luminosity across the dupatta surface. The tissue dupatta’s woven floral appears against this shimmer ground, the flowers visible through the tissue’s translucency from both sides of the fabric.

• Wash: Dry clean recommended for both the raw silk pieces and the tissue dupatta. Raw silk with woven floral requires professional care to preserve the fabric body and the woven colour.
• Hand wash (raw silk, if needed): Cold water, pH-neutral detergent. Raw silk can tolerate careful cold hand washing better than processed silk, but the natural sericin softens slightly in water — the fabric may feel softer after first wash and stiffen slightly on drying. This is normal.
• Tissue dupatta: Dry clean only. Tissue silk with metallic lurex threads should not be hand washed — the lurex can tarnish in water.
• Woven floral: The woven colour is permanently in the fabric structure and cannot fade or bleed in the way printed colour does. Wash with reasonable care.
• Do not: Machine wash, wring, bleach.
• Iron: Medium heat for the raw silk (it responds well to firm ironing, which can restore some of the natural body). Low heat for the tissue dupatta, reverse side only. Never iron on the metallic lurex from the front.
• Dry: In shade. The champagne will shift slightly in extended direct sun.
• Store: Each piece folded separately in clean muslin. Tissue dupatta rolled rather than folded if possible
